Y Sports

My parents have an interesting story . . . I like to say when they found each other the North met the South.  Literally, my Mom's side is from Canada; my Dad's from Arizona.  Their ancestors' graves ~ Coleman & Wing ~ even face each other w/ the dividing line in Lehi.  My Dad's ancestors are buried clear down Utah into AZ while my Mom's up north into Canada).  They met on a blind date at BYU.  My Mom's roommate, it turned out, was her future brother-in-law's sister, Barbara Benson Walker.  Someone my Mom knew well at college was a man who had a movie made about his mission:  The Other Side of Heaven!  (She says she remembers him telling her the story of his being capsized in the ocean).

My beautiful Mom!
I am the youngest of their four (two boys & two girls).  It's interesting that two of us are tall blondes w/ blue eyes (both born on a 24) while the other two are short brunettes w/ brown eyes (I'd like to say both born on 5's, but I happened to decide to be two-hrs late . . . as usual ~ story of my life)!

ALL of us went to BYU!  True blue ~ Go Cougars!!  Yes, we have all had our share of enjoying the games live in the Stadium.  That's one thing I really miss about BYU, about college life in general.  In fact, my late teens-early 20's were some of the best yrs in my life.  If I could go back . . .

Anyway, my parents (& fam) always loved sports growing up.  They used to have it on all of the time. I actually really love watching football (any team).  Half-way thru my 20's (after nearly marrying a professional European soccer player) I met a friend whose fam not only loved to play soccer, but also basketball.  She could throw it like nobody I knew!  We used to play together once in a while (after sticking soccer & basketball stickers on me during Institute).  I really miss playing tennis w/ her & throwing a football.  I'll tell ya ~ some other sports that I like . . . ping pong, softball (my bro loves to attend the Boston Red Sox & Orioles games ~ after all he got his MBA from Harvard after graduating as a Valedictorian ABYUSA President under Elder Jeffry R. Holland).  It was interesting, too, to learn my bro gave a speech on the importance of our U.S. Constitution only to find out yrs later we actually descend thru one of its signers: Jacob Broom.  I was fortunate in that I not only graduated w/ two degrees from that school, but also got to date another one of its ASBYU Student Body Pres's who, I found out later, used my bro's slogan:  Winning w/ You!

Growing up we had a pool table in our basement, so I enjoy doing that.  Speaking of pool . . . I also really love swimming after posing like a jelly fish at my best friend's house eating unlimited crab in their cabana every summer.  We used to roller skate every weekend among other things.  But I have to say my fav is dancing!  I think I missed my calling in life being dancer, or at least an ice dancer as I thoroughly enjoy watching pairs.  I've been skiing a few times, tho I'm not a pro.  Used to love kickball, flag football, & dodge ball at school.  Believe me, I could outsmart those boys.  'Course speaking of grade school . . . I have to admit my fav sport was always "kissin' tag."  & who could ever give up swinging?!!  Man, I miss those money bars.

Btw, I have one thing to ask . . . would you wear U'r sch's fav Snuggie?!!  ;-)

A Thought

Life is not a competition.
It's an opportunity to bless if we so let it!

On Sacrifice

So glad He sees . . .

Day by Day

Tis True!

Supremely grateful . . .

The sacrifices we make for something we not only believe, but know is better is So worth it in the long run!

Broadcast Message & a Fav Song

When I heard this song sung during Hales Center Theatre's production of the "Secret Garden" I cried & cried at the end it was so beautiful!  I was privileged to attend w/ a Catholic 80 yr old friend who helped me put together the genealogy to our Mayflower Ancestor, George Soule.  She loves beautiful music, & has often come to hear us perform our OTS concerts.
"Not long ago, lines at a mortuary grew long as scores of people came to pay respects. In fact, the line of people grew so long that it was moved outside the mortuary and down the street. Who was the person whose life had touched so many? She was not a VIP—at least, not by most standards; she was not rich or famous; she wasn’t a celebrity or a powerful business or political leader. She was a teacher: known and loved for touching the lives of countless elementary schoolchildren."
This is how I'd like to be known as long as I'm teaching!

A Thought & a Song

There is not one day that goes by I don't think about who I can love & help Him mend.
I have found that I've had to go thru my own "brokenness" in order to understand what that means.
And I am grateful.
I am happiest when I do life one moment at a time w/ exquisite self control!

Great Start to My Week!

Highlights of the last two days:
1) singing in the ward choir, reaching the high notes strong & the Bishop saying it was the most powerful number!
2) talk on music right along w/ views for my book
3) new visiting teacher who is incredible (she from Canada ~ where my Mom is from & the other from AZ ~ where my Dad is from)
4) while visiting my Mom, having the lady there ask me to tell her stories about her ~ wish they could have known her & how sharp she was
(what I told her:  so committed she magnified every calling she ever had in the LDS church, spending hrs in preparation ~ so good w/ children they wouldn't release her from being the Sunbeam Teacher for yrs & even made her "Sister Friend" ~ such a meticulous Office Manager for my Dad that everyone relied on her ~ so compassionate she would pick up ladies who were mentally ill & sit w/ them at church)
5) waking up after a late nite last nite (exhausted) only to have a stu's Mother go home & make me breakfast saying the exact thing I posted on FB about how we all need each other!
6) stu's who love me & are excited to be w/ me everyday who love music & are working so hard to do what they need to do!
7) knowing my cello books are done
8) co-workers who are helpful all the time
9) seeing the effects of loving people right & left
10) reading people's lives who lift & inspire me to be better than I am!

Yah ~ Having a Great Start to the Week!
