The Jacksons

The boys love to help their Dad w/ the landscaping.
I have some very dear friends who let me stay w/ them from time to time whenever I feel I need a visit. Their Mom was recently in the hospital for a sodium level problem.  I was relieved to hear she was doing well after having a seizure.  I went to visit her & was happy to see the whole family there!

Love to hear the rooster crowing in the morning!
The beautiful playhouse in the backyard.
Their garden.

Their Father built this gorgeous playhouse.

The boys love to show me new things they play.

One of the things they love to play w/ (besides trucks) is horses.

I always appreciate their prayers on my behalf.  All of the boys play the organ & one of the boys knows all about the pipes in the greatest organs across the world.  He has even played on
the Tab Organ before.  They know Richard Elliott really well
(who always says "Hi" to me as we pass at the Tab).

Two Pic's I Recognized in My FB Newsfeed Tonite

Umm ~ that would be my best friend!
She received her 1st copy of the BOM while at the Sacred Grove/Hill Cumora Pageant trip

And this would be the pic I took of a Heber sunset 2-3 wks ago!

83 Yr Old Kendall (just had a b-day)

This is my 83 yr old friend, Kendall:
He was eating a 2 wk old cookie he said never tasted better!
He offered me a bite, but I declined.
I met him last yr in my Heber LDS ward.  He used to write me love letters & give them to me at church all complete w/ the latest Wave (Heber) news(paper) clippings he most enjoyed (or thought I would).  Now he just sends them in the mail ~ since I joined a SLC singles ward last January (when our new schedule conflicted w/ my Music & the Spoken Word performances).

Every once in a while I call him on my way to rehearsal.  Tonite I just called to report on how school went (since yesterday I complained how so many didn't have their violins yet ~ 3 wks into school)!  Ugh ~ you can imagine how happy I was when three of them came in beaming today having their violins in hand.  I was simply breathing a sigh of relief!

Well, Mr. Kendall always has a yummy treat for me & tonite was no exception.  I was in the mood for dessert, so I got a bit of his fav:  homemade tapioca pudding.  Always delish!

I even got to take some home!
At one point, I took a little nap.  I was tired!  Had taught a cello class at 8 a.m. w/ 4 violin classes back-to-back (about 20-35 in each).  Then, I spent hrs putting together books for my stu's.  I had a bit of a fit w/ the hole-punching machine, but once I got it working I was on a roll.  So much so I stayed till 6:30 p.m.
~ just to get it done.

I'm so excited b/c we have 18 new little cellists in our beginning class!  That's a record for me.  The H.S. was happy to hear that.  Just got done auditioning & placing all of the violins this yr.  The upperclassmen enjoyed the process.  Next week we're going to take a listen to all the violas & cellos.

Kendall says I'm sitting in my chair! haha
Love his cheesy grin!

Tests & Adversities

I love my Wed. nite Institute Teacher!  He is truly one of the Best I've ever had.  Not only has Institute attendance increased 3 times or more since he began, but I feel his genuine concern not only for individuals but in his lack of caring about all the material & personal prep he "packs" into his lessons.  People's feelings (thoughts & testimony) are more important than if he gets it all in, thankfully!

Whenever I go I am always surprised at how much I take out w/ me.  I always feel somehow like going on; like I'm really on the right track!

One of the most amazing things he said last nite was how his Mother beat cancer.  She went thru all of the scary parts of hair loss & barefaced treatments, & was even told she only had 2 yrs to live!   But did.  That was 25 yrs & many missions ago.

Was also really encouraged by this talk I found a day or two ago on NieNie's blog.  Thank you, Stephanie, for giving us the "meat."  I was hungry!

If we have faith in Jesus Christ, the hardest as well as the easiest times in life can be a blessing.

The Candy (Wo)Man

Just spent the last hr meeting my new skiing & skating instructor neighbors who lived in Lake Placid, Canada, Connecticut, & DC! Had a KFC craving only to come home to new cat & kitten the little neighbor children were all catching in a cage.  The parents are Catholic home-schoolers from Germany & Austria interested in Genealogy.  The one little girl was upset b/c Mom had no fresh cookies made in the house (they just moved in).  So, like the pied piper I invited all the children up for some teacher "thank you" treats in my stash.  I really always want roses or flowers or something, but I most often get candy!  I think I just opened Pandora's Box, tho . . . I told them they could come up anytime.  ;-)  Some have already come now twice (for their "friends").

Ron

Let me introduce you to:
my good friend, Diane Higbee Roth, who I met while serving as an LDS Provo Temple Ordinance Worker.
Her hus, Ron, just recently passed away the same day as my Uncle.
"Princess Di's" fam at the gravesite.

Ron & Diane at the Portland LDS Temple Visiter Center.

My Dad says her brother is one of the best Bishops he's ever had in the McLean ward (which says a lot since we've had other great Bishops there, including
Elder Gerrit Gong, who home taught us for a number of yrs).
Her younger brother, ironically, turned up that same yr in my former Provo ward.
Coincidence?  I think not . . . esp. since finding out (thru fam history research)
that her two ancestors, Isaac Higbee & Elisha Groves, baptized my Dad's Averett ancestors who then converted some of her Mother's.  We discovered this reading each other's DUP histories.
We've found lots of histories there submitted by relatives.
Hence, our fam history jaunt thru the state in search of gravesites.
Di's hus died of a sudden heart attack after only 5 or 6 yrs of marriage.
Her parents are now presently on a mission, serving in Croatia.
Btw, she's a great free-thrower as well as die-hard Blue fan.

Speeches

My friend said, & I read on my sis-in-law's wall, that our 1st Lady gave an excellent speech last nite, BUT . . . no matter who can orate "correctly"
it's STILL a matter of principle & moral.

A man we can trust?
Hmmm ~ not so sure, Michelle.
Esp. after learning
(thru Michael)
that your hus has appointed men in office
exponentially
(as well as unconstitutionally)
such that our Utah Senator denied
every man called thereafter,
so was denied access now into the White House.
First time, Michelle . . .
I wasn't let in.
Am I NOT a U.S. (as well as D.C.)
citizen?!!

I think I can safely say
I was there before you were
(a few times).

As close as I got this time:

(Hence, the reason for our "exclusive Senator's tour" thru the Capital instead).

The Last Two Days

Monday

Got to meet w/ these two:
For my massage.  He used to be my UPS guy; she is the massager.
But what's even more fun . . .
He's a Coleman & she's
lucky enough to be married to one!  ;-)
Why a massage?
Well, after yrs of playing the violin & driving to teach & perform . . .
unfortunately, my whole left side has developed problems
from lack of movement.
So, later when I got home
I went to the gym & made sure I got some!

~

Tuesday

Happy Birthday to Ro!!
One of the Best Artists I know . . .
but more importantly ~
one of the Best talkers on the phone
when you need a listening ear.
She always cares &
possesses the power to lift me
somehow.
Compassion is where it's at!
So is charity ~
& she exemplifies both.

Got to watch this DVD that just came out last Sunday . . .
Have done about a dozen of these now
since Angela Lansbury.

Here's to Wednesday!

A Few Cookin' Tips

Last nite
after visiting some cousins . . .
I was glad I made the hr drive to attend Dessert Nite w/ friends (even tho it meant another 30 min. drive afterward back up to where I live).  The guys in attendance were very knowledgable on subjects near & dear to them.  One was cooking!
I learned a few basics:

1) yellow onions for cooking ~ white for hamburgers & salads

2) when coating chicken or fish ~ use mayonnaise (it has eggs in it & sticks better) . . . also, try whole wheat bread crumbs &/or crushed almonds as coating

3) learn about spices online b/c they can really punch up the flavor ~ such as rosemary on red potatoes

Btw, we had homemade cherry cheesecake for dessert w/ real cherries on top!  Yum
Altho, I have to admit . . . my fav is blueberry!

How to Handle Your Baby

When I saw this recently I just had to laugh!

Click on the link to see all of it!
Esp. since I've been pinning childhood development thru all ages
for my teaching & future mothering (in case that still comes in this life).  If nothing else, hopefully, it can help someone else ~ to be prepared.

A Few ?'s

Which one is your fav?
Have you ever tried cooking w/ olive oil?

It is my fav way to cook healthy meals!
In fact, I love it so much I even use it on popcorn!
(This is such a great popper ~ I highly recommend it):
What is your fav item to buy at Costco?
Mine are the prime rib steaks my sis introduced me to.
What is your fav % of milk?  I like 1% or skim.
I like meat!  Thick juicy Stakes.

I also like symbols in writing & deciphering deep hidden messages.  I esp. liked writing poetry when I was little.  What is your fav kind of writing?

Views This Morn

My room w/ a view!

Here comes the rain again . . .
Those poor people at Swiss Days!

All in the same morn!

Wow ~ it must smell good outside

Who R the People in U'r Neighborhood?

So,
Mrs. Datoc & Pat, my best friend's oldest bro
(both doctors)
growing up we had Italian neighbors & Asian friends all over the place.  In fact, I was so excited to learn our fav fam's doctor (Asian) lived in our neighborhood ~ when reconnecting w/ his son recently on FB!  It's interesting what you learn about people as adults.  Little did I know that the kind man (who terrorized me as a child ~ w/ shots) had sons who would not only end up providing much-needed rides to the airport, but would also admire me all these yrs for playing the violin in school.  Didn't know Dr. Chusuei's sons went to school w/ me!
Michael Chusuei
In fact, when I was at home in Va. this past summer it was awesome getting to go over & visit Mrs. Venuto again.  She & my Mom used to love each other so much.  Took many trips back n' forth 'cross the lawn to borrow sugar & other things.  It was so nice ~ Lynn extended love to my Mom & told me how much they miss her.  Even tho we're all FB friends ~ it's still nice to see each other in person every once in a while.  Some of my funnest memories are of my bro & I posing for pic's in front of our neighbor's fancy cars, comparing our gardens, & cutting thru lawns greeting each other (one of which at one point taught me horse-back riding lessons ~ until I got bucked off ~ didn't dare get on a horse after that, but did finally manage it again ~ & loved it) en route daily to my best friend's house!  Used to buy my parents' anniversary & b-day gifts from the lady who made porcelain down a little ways from our bus top.  Ah the vid's we made as children!  Some include our current Utah Senator's younger sisters, who I used to babysit.
Taking a tour
Thru Mike Lee's office
His Dad & mine were 2nd cousins growing up (in AZ); even roommates in college.  When Solicitor General & BYU Pres. Rex Lee moved his fam back (after living in Utah), my Dad helped them f(i/u)nd their moving into our neighborhood!  Their daughter, Wendy, drove me to early morn seminary & I took Michael.   In fact, let it not leak out that I was the one who told our Utah Senator there was no Santa Claus.   I remember sitting in the cultural hall of the church when he asked me to "wait for him" on his mission also.  We were 5!  Well, maybe I was slightly older.  You know what they say . . . kissin' kuzins!
My Best Friend's (daughter's) Wedding!
Who are my neighbors now?  And do I know them?  Well . . . let's see.  When I first moved in, I was lucky.  Not only did I have the great fortune of having two of them (sisters) help me bring up boxes, but they also invited me over for dinner that evening.  It was wonderful b/c they gave me lots of pointers on how to buy furniture for my apt.  They also introduced me to other members of their fam who later moved in.  I gave them one of our Mo Tab CD's for being so nice & sic-ed (sent) the LDS missionaries on (to) them one day (knowing they were Catholic & also very Christian).  Shhh!  (They didn't know).
Turns out the neighbors across the hall work-out at the Clubhouse gym (met one of them while on the tread mill) & attend Institute w/ me.  One even works in the District!  I see her (almost) every morn.
Used to sit on the stairs w/ the man underneath me (who helped dump all of my boxes to recycling ~ gave him a CD also, even tho he was Mormon ~ Jack, that is) & learn about his failed marriages.  His son had recently been divorced himself ~ had a child that went to one of my sch's ~ but, he has since found someone & remarried.  Hence, they moved!  Their place is still empty.
Ro & Jack this summer
You can imagine how delighted I was to learn the neighbors (directly below me ~ who get complaints all the time for being loud, leaving their bikes out & using side-walk chalk ~ their children often greet me when I come home) have a girl who likes to play violin & joined my class!  I have her again this yr.  Speaking of stu's, I sometimes spot one of my loyal subjects (a senior who is graduating after yrs of studying now w/ me) walking around our neighborhood.  Her Dad (who displays a big red U blanket on his porch every season) owns a condo in the other bldg.

It's a good thing to get to know your neighbors b/c you never know who might come in handy . . . like the single cop I met while swimming in the pool.  I actually didn't meet him that way . . . I met my neighbors (in the bldg way over) while taking a dip who then invited me over to meet him (another recent divorcee).  Fun times playing card games!  I've gotten to meet many neighbors at the swimming pool . . . one time we all got scared from lightening, but that didn't stop us.  Another time, the young women came for an activity when I was there.  You get to meet lots of neighbors that way!
Ride 'em cowgirl!

Used to take treats to the missionaries (before they ~ the MTC ~ were afraid of bombs).  Haven't made cookies for anyone in a long time . . . I give out Mo Tab CD's now instead.
Horse-bike riding w/ my dear friend I met at Institute

Btw, you can meet lots of people doing genealogy, too.  Didn't know half the state of Utah & much of the community in which I live are related to me!  That's another story . . .

Have you seen this movie?  So good!
